Abstract

Recently, the 2μm wavelength region is attracting growing attention. This interest is associated with the development of the hollow-core photonic band-gap fiber which can have low optical losses in the range of 1.6-2.1 micron. In turn, this allows one to extend the transmission window for optical communications. Therefore, the actual problem is the creation of an amplifier for this spectral range. Ho-doped fiber is a promising active medium for amplifier operating in a range of 2-2.15 micron where the efficient lasing was demonstrated [1, 2]. In this paper we present results of the amplification of the weak signal at 2.1 micron using Ho-doped fiber.
