Measuring ultra-high power femtosecond lasers in space-time

Abstract

As femtosecond laser systems deliver more powerful and therefore larger beams, features like spatial-temporal couplings are to be expected [1]. Spatial-temporal couplings (STC) occur when the temporal structure of the beam is dependent upon the spatial coordinates. Such effects can be introduced by optical elements as simple as a singlet lens, but their impact on the peak intensity at focus can be dramatic. When properly controlled, these couplings can also be exploited to achieve more complex laser-matter interactions [2].
