Abstract

A portable, low cost optical spectrometer has been developed for human breath analysis. The system is primarily intended to be a non-invasive diagnostic test for lung infection in diseases like Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN) has been identified as a biomarker in the breath of CF patients [1]. HCN is released during the metabolism of pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, present in the lungs of CF patients [1].
