Direct and efficient high harmonic generation at 10 MHz repetition rate

Abstract

Laser driven high harmonic generation (HHG) has emerged as a promising source for coherent extreme ultraviolet or soft X-ray radiation. However, its applicability in fields such as photoelectron spectroscopy and microscopy, coincidence detection and others has been hampered by the low repetition rate and photon flux [1]. In particular, the achievement of multi-MHz sources with direct HHG has been challenging in terms of achieving high photon flux [2]. This demand has, so far, only been met by enhancement cavities, which increase complexity and size of the setup [3].
