Balancing thermal lensing in enhancement cavities

Abstract

Enhancement cavities (ECs) are powerful tools for driving frequency conversion processes such as high-order harmonic generation (HHG) [1], inverse Compton scattering off relativistic electrons [2] or, potentially, intra-pulse difference frequency generation [3]. The power scaling of enhancement cavities is limited by mirror damage and thermally-induced phase-front distortions of the cavity optics [4]. In particular, in cavities containing transmissive optics, i.e., nonlinear crystals or elements for coupling out radiation generated in the EC, significant thermal lensing occurs.
