Abstract
Highly nonlinear fibers with a flat normal dispersion profile are suitable for supercontinuum (SC) generation, where the bandwidth is sacrificed to get low noise and high coherence, suitable for nonlinear microscopy and ultra-short pulse generation [1]. Recently, an all-solid soft glass PCF with flat all-normal dispersion in the range 1500 - 2500 nm was used to obtain a coherent SC spanning over an octave from 900 - 2300 nm[2]. Alternatively a liquid core fiber (LCOF) has been proposed to obtain larger nonlinearities compared with solid fibers. It was experimentally demonstrated that the SC spectra spanning from 1460 nm to 2100 nm and from 1790 nm to 2400 nm can be generated in a CS2-filled LCOF [3]. In this paper, we propose the CS2-filled LCOF with the three-layer cladding based on the heavily Ge-doped silica as shown in Fig. 1(a). The Ge concentration in silica fibres has shown to be as high as 100 mol% [4]. This offers an additional degree of freedom for tuning the waveguide dispersion that we use to generate an extremely flat normal dispersion extending well into the mid-IR, suitable for near-IR-pumped coherent SC generation.
