Abstract
Nonlinear optical materials have been of interest for over 40 years [1]. Friberg and Smith found that SF57 lead silicate glass exhibited n2 value of 4.1·10−19m2W−1 [2], later works by Aber resulted in over twice smaller value for the same material: 2.2 ·10−19m2W−1 [3]. Furthermore, for SF6 glass different groups report similar results under using different methods, 1.89·10−19m2W−1 by three-wave frequency mixing of 1.06 μm / 3 ns pulses [4], 2.15·10−19m2W−1 using time-resolved interferometry operating at 1.06 μm [5], and 2.29·10−19m2W−1 with optical Kerr effect with wavelength of 638 nm and 130 fs pulse duration [3]. Additionally nonlinear refractive index differs by using various measuring wavelengths and pulse lengths [6,7]. Thus correct analysis of the various types of glasses and compositions need to be performed in a uniform experiment under same setup and conditions, to directly compare different types of glasses.
