Abstract

Fiber Optic Sensors (FOS) are a very promising and fast growing research field. The unquestionable advantages of FOS including: immunity to electromagnetic field, light weight, robustness, large bandwidth, and possibility of multiplexing allows FOS to find application in almost every sector of industry. Nonetheless optical fibers long term high temperature stability remains one of the main barriers in FOS application in harsh environments. To protect fibers from degradation at elevated temperatures protective metal coatings are commonly used. However at temperatures, exceeding 500°C, most frequently used copper coatings oxidize rapidly, hence leave the fiber unprotected [1].
