Abstract
Amplitude and phase diffraction gratings are transmission gratings commonly used in optical metrology [1]. In this work, we present Volume Phase Gratings (VPG) embedded in borosilicate glass fabricated by femtosecond laser direc writing as an alternative. In contrast with other fabrication methods, direct laser writing allows the fabrication of 3D phase structures embedded in glass in only one step and free of chemicals process with the added advantages of being embedded in glass [2] : greater durability, high transmission and the possibility of applying coatings. There are some previous works on direct laser writing of gratings in glass [3], but they work as Bragg gratings which diffract light with high efficiency and narrow spectral bandwidth [4], however those works are not focused on thinner gratings and near field diffraction patterns.
