Abstract

In the Lewis acidic melts it is possible to obtain the metal cations in the low oxidation states with unusual electronic configurations. Univalent bismuth cation, Bi+, possesses an open shell 6p2 configuration with several low-lying exited states, causing intense and broadband luminescence in the near-IR with the decay time of hundreds of μs [1-3].
