Abstract

Silk-based materials are interesting alternatives to traditional optical materials for biological applications, due to their biocompatibility and stable protein structure. To date, silk-based optics have been created using purified silk fibroin solution from Bombyx mori (silkworms). A suite of planar optical devices and sensors have been successfully demonstrated using this material [1].
