Abstract
Tm,Ho-codoped monoclinic double tungstates have been intensively investigated in recent years as active media of lasers emitting in 2.0-2.1 μm spectral range. Continuous-wave [1,2] and mode-locked [3,4] regimes of operation have previously been demonstrated with Tm,Ho:KY(WO4)2 and Tm,Ho:KLu(WO4)2 crystals. The laser emission was realized on 5I7 - 5I8 holmium transition with pumping at 802 nm in absorption band of thulium. Therefore the energy transfer process between Tm3+ and Ho3+ ions plays a dominant role in populating of 5I7 Ho3+ manifold and laser action.
