Abstract
Mode-locked lasers have become highly attractive for applications in non-linear optics, spectroscopy and biomedicine. Stability of optical frequency standards based on diode pumped solid-state lasers can be transferred from optical to radio frequency (RF) range. It promises improvement of the optical clockwork for telecommunications and global navigation satellite systems and defines the interest in compact and reliable RF standard based on a beat note of longitudinal modes of Nd:YVO4 laser with intracavity frequency doubling in a KTP crystal. Self-starting passive mode-locked operation in such a laser has already been demonstrated in [1]. The mode-locking mechanism is based on Kerr nonlinearity in Nd:YVO4 crystal, cascaded χ(2) lensing in KTP and frequency doubling nonlinearity.
