Parasitic Noise Suppression in a Double-Pass Ring Amplifier

Abstract

Efficient lasers and amplifiers are highly demanded for space-based rangefinding. There is already a vast literature on the development of these devices based on the MOPA scheme [1]. The parasitic oscillations caused by the finite contrast of the polarizer decoupler are highly devastating for applications, and lead to saturation of the output energy with the pump increase. We report on the suppression of the parasitic effects using a misaligned double-pass amplifier. The device has been developed for the Phobos-Ground Project [2].
