Abstract

Due to effective heat removal and weak self-focusing thin disk lasers are one of the most perspective high capacity and average power lasers. For today output parameters of thin disk lasers has reached subkW average power and hundreds mJ of pulse energy. In France the LUCIA project with up to 100 J pulse energy is developed at 10 Hz repetition rate. It is shown in [1], that characteristics of thin disk laser can be strongly improved at cooling an active element up to cryogenic temperatures. The GENBU project has started in Japan and the goal of this project is the cryogenic Yb:YAG disk laser with kJ energy in 10 ns pulse at 100 Hz repetition rate.
