Abstract
Femtosecond laser ablation is being used increasingly in various applications such as micro-machining. In order to study the fundamental nature of the ablation process, we have studied the laser ablation of single-crystalline metals by single ultrashort infrared laser pulses under ultra-high vacuum conditions.
