Abstract
Fiber laser systems have been established as an average power scalable laser concept. The demonstration of kW average power can be considered as a straightforward task. Generation of intense short laser pulses out of fiber lasers is somewhat more challenging because of the confined high peak intensities leading to pulse distortions due to nonlinear effects. In the talk approaches to overcome these limitations based on advanced fiber designs, adaptive control of nonlinearity and combining of pulsed fiber source sources will be discussed.
