Transverse phase-matched second-harmonic generation from counterpropagating beams for characterising ultrashort pulses

Abstract

The use of ultrashort pulses is a standard tool for a rapidly increasing number of applications in both research and industry. Whereas in most cases a precise knowledge about the pulse shape and duration is essential for the success of the application, characterisation of pico- and femto-second pulses requires elaborate, alignment-critical and foremost expensive tools with usually large footprint. In this work we present a simple, compact and cost-effective solid-state alternative to perform auto- and cross-correlation measurements that additionally reveal timing information for synchronization purposes.
