Femtosecond electron diffractometry: a new approach and first steps

Abstract

Ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) is a powerful tool for investigating molecular dynamics on a very short time scale. However, present state of the art experiments are limited to a temporal resolution of about 500 fs due to space charge broadening of the electron pulses. In this talk simulations and first experiments will be presented, aimed at significantly improving the temporal resolution of UED.
