Abstract

The generation of supercontinua in highly nonlinear fibers e.g. photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) and tapered fibers is of great interest for a variety of applications like imaging and scanning techniques, frequency metrology as well as optical communications. Such broad spectra can be efficiently generated by using femtosecond ytterbium fiber lasers operating around 1 μm in the high power regime of parabolic pulses (similaritons), and therefore without the need of additional amplifiers. In this contribution we report on the experimental results on the supercontinuum generation with PCFs applying the above mentioned ultrafast laser system.
