Abstract

In the last few years, there has been a growing interest in rare-earth-doped, optically pumped waveguide amplifiers and lasers in LiNbO3. Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3)is a very interesting material for its intrinsic electro-optical and nonlinear- optical properties. In particular, we will focus our attention on the optical properties of the Erbium ion. because its 4I13/24I15/2 transition emits in the 1.5 μm region which is very interesting for fiber optical communication.
