Mid-IR detection inside a near-IR broadband ring laser with cascaded down- and upconversion

Abstract

The mid-infrared (mid-IR) spectral fingerprint regions from 3-5μm and from 8-11μm are of central importance for molecular detection and identification. Detection in this region, however, remains problematic due to high noise levels, slow response times, and low quantum efficiencies of mid-IR detectors.
