Abstract

The realization of broadly tunable femtosecond laser sources at megahertz repetition rate is of great interest for several applications ranging from time-resolved optical spectroscopy to micromachining. Such performances are currently achieved by optical parametric oscillators (OPOs), whose realization is quite complex due to the need of external resonators and cavity synchronization. Compared to OPOs, optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs) offer more agile and wide tunability and simplicity of operation. Only very recently, however, thanks to advances in laser technology and optical fibres, the repetition rate of an OP A has been pushed to the megahertz range [1,2].
