Simultaneous observation of multiple four-wave mixing processes in the phase-matched and non-phase-matched regimes

Abstract

Four-wave mixing (FWM) interactions in optical fibers have attracted considerable interest for several decades and have been observed in plenty of configurations. They generally require a strict phase-matching condition whereby the linear momentum of the incoming photons has to be conserved. This sets precise conditions on the characteristics of the fiber hosting the interaction (in particular on its chromatic dispersion) or, for a given fiber, on the wavelength of the various interacting waves. In turn, this generally severely limits the possibility of observing several FWM processes simultaneously from the same pump waves. To the best of our knowledge, such multiple FWM interactions have rarely been reported.
