Abstract
The development of new high capacity holographic data storage systems in EU project ATHOS requires computer simulation to support experimental work. Shift-multiplexed holographic storage1 promises high data density and good compatibility with existing optical disk technology (i.e. track and focus servo). Using this method on-axis and reflective optical arrangement can be realized with high NA beams and lenses. With proper modeling estimations of some key parameters can be made, such as shift-selectivity, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and raw bit or symbol error rates (BER. SER). We present a modeling tool that can efficiently provide these parameters for transmissive or reflective gratings as well.
