Abstract

The linewidth enhancement factor (or alpha parameter) describes the coupling of amplitude and phase in a semiconductor laser. It is a fundamental property of semiconductor lasers, and influences a variety of other important dynamic properties like linewidth and chirp, for example. We present measurements of the linewidth enhancement factor of distributed feedback quantum cascade lasers using a self-mixing interferometer technique.
