Absorption-enhanced Imaging through Scattering Medium

Abstract

We study absorption-induced image resolution enhancement through scattering medium by varying the scattering coefficient and the anisotropic factor of the medium while adding carbon black absorber nanoparticles. Resolution-enhancement is 80% for media consisting of isotropic scatterers (e.g., dielectric nanoparticles) compared to 8% for strongly forward-scattering media (e.g. biological tissue). Subsequently, by increasing imaging wavelength from visible to near-infrared, resolution-enhancement for forward-scattering medium is increased (4×).
