Inherent Signal Distortion in Dynamic Fiber-optic Interrogators Employing Frequency Scanning

Abstract

It is shown, theoretically and experimentally, that signal distortion is inherently present in dynamic fiber-optic strain sensing techniques, which use frequency scanning to determine the value of the measurand. The resulting harmonic distortion and ways to reduce it are described.
