Abstract

We obtain the quantum Cramér-Rao (QCR) bound for estimating the 2-D separation of two incoherent optical point sources. The bound is independent of the x- and y-separations. We also propose an interferometric scheme that approaches the bound for sub-Rayleigh separations.
