A General Threshold for Laser-Driven Linear Particle Acceleration in Infinite Vacuum

Abstract

We derive a threshold formula for unbounded vacuum acceleration by hypothesizing that this is possible only if the field perturbs the particle relativistically in its initial rest frame. Numerical simulations support our formula and hypothesis.
