Photodarkening mechanisms in ytterbium fiber lasers; a comparison of UV-induced losses in glass and crystalline materials

Abstract

UV-induced absorption is investigated for three different ytterbium doped laser materials. It is found that the induced transmission loss originates from the formation of Yb2+-ions and hole-related defects.
