Theory of Noise Dynamics in Backwards Stimulated Brillouin Scattering

Abstract

We develop a general theoretical framework for Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) noise in the undepleted pump regime. We derive analytic results for signal-to-noise ratio and find that higher optical losses can lead to noise reduction.
