An Integrated Composite Cavity Laser Switchable Between Single and Multi-Mode Operations

Abstract

An InP coupled cavity laser developed in a generic foundry is presented. Two active/passive ring cavities with different lengths constitute the Vernier-assisted versatile architecture. Single wavelength with >30 nm tunability and >30 dB extinction ratio and multimode operations with >300 GHz spacing are obtained.
