Broadband filtering of the fundamental mode of a few-mode waveguide with a phase-shifted long-period grating

Abstract

We design and fabricate a phase-shifted long-period grating in a few-mode waveguide to filter out the fundamental mode. Our experimental device shows a mode extinction ratio larger than 8 dB from 1520 to 1610 nm.
