Polarization maintaining few mode fibers for space division multiplexing

Abstract

We review proposals of polarization maintaining fibers for short reach MIMO-less space division multiplexing. We summarize transmission experiments with an elliptical ring core fiber and propose hole-assisted elliptical core designs to scale the capacity.
