Radial Position Measurement of Defects within Optical Fibers using Skew Rays Interrogation

Abstract

Defects in optical fibers can inflict significant damage, and thus must be detected and repaired/replaced early. Microscopic defects in fibers and their coatings can be detected and radially resolved using a simple angle-resolved interrogator that exploits the contribution of different ray groups.
