Abstract

We propose and deign slow-light grating waveguides (GWGs) for high performance silicon Raman amplifier. The GWGs have simple shape structures for easy fabrication and also keep good performance for high gain amplifiers. Due to ultra-low group velocity and small effective Raman area, the enhancement factor of the Raman gain for the optimized structure is 92 times larger than those for photonic crystal waveguides (PhC WGs) discussed by other group. The factor is also comparable with our design of PhC WGs with complicated air-hole shapes.
