Abstract

It is the first time that a new Arbitrary Length Nozzle design method (ALN method) is applied to the nozzle design of a gasdynamic laser. For comparison, ALN nozzle and MLN nozzle (Minimum Length Nozzle) are designed with the same Mach number at nozzle exit, the same height of the nozzle throat and the same length of the nozzle. 2-D gasdynamic laser Small Signal Gain (SSG) field simulation is carried out to the nozzles and the simulation results indicate that ALN nozzle with proper design parameters can obtain shorter nozzle length and bigger SSG than the MLN nozzles. It is shown that the ALN method is a more advanced design method on the nozzle design of a gasdynamic laser.
