Abstract

By controlling the initial coherent preparation of the medium and the effective area of the incident ultrashort laser pulse, we demonstrate that highly efficient linear-to-circular and circular-to-linear light polarization conversion can be realized in a degenerate three-level medium due to the quantum interference effects between the two different transition paths.
