Radial Index Tailoring for Reduced Intermodal Coupling in Large-Mode-Area Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers

Abstract

Low-order Gaussian index profiles result in increased modal index contrast. Intermodal coupling can be reduced by a factor of 10 to 100, with nonlinear thresholds increased by a factor of 3 to 7 due to larger effective areas.
