CSS-AMPSK for Rayleigh Noise Mitigation in PONs

Abstract

We demonstrate a novel Rayleigh-noise-mitigation scheme for 10-Gb/s-DWDM-PONs using CSS-AMPSK modulation, generated by a single Mach-Zehnder-modulator (MZM). The required optical-signal-to-Rayleigh-noise-ratio (OSRNR) is reduced by 12dB, while achieving excellent tolerance to dispersion, subcarrier-frequency and drive-amplitude variations.
