Self-compression of millijoule pulses to 7.8 fs duration in a white-light filament

Abstract

A novel method for generating few-cycle pulses with extremely high peak powers >100GW is experimentally demonstrated. This method relies on plasma-induced spectral broadening and does not require any additional means for dispersion compensation.
