All Optical RZ to NRZ Format Conversion Using Phase Modulation in a Dispersion-Shifted Fiber

Abstract

We demonstrate two schemes for return-to-zero to non-return-to-zero format conversion using spectral broadening caused by nonlinear phase modulation in a dispersion-shifted fiber. Less then 2dB power penalty has been observed in both conversion schemes.
