Photon echoes in an amplifying rare-earth ion-doped crystal

Abstract

We report on the first experimental demonstration of photon echoes in an amplifying rare-earth ion-doped crystal. Population inversion is achieved via optical pumping yielding higher power photon echoes, with an energy gain up to 5.
