Modelling surface imperfection induced mode mixing in multimode microstructured fibres

Abstract

Mode mixing caused by surface imperfections in the holes of microstructured fibres is theoretically modelled for highly multimode systems. Approximations for coupling, differential mode attenuation, equilibrium lengths, power distributions and loss are obtained.
