Up or down chirping - a recipe to generate sub-200 fs pulses from a dispersion-managed semiconductor laser

Abstract

SHG-FROG measurements revealed 185 fs pulses generated by linear down chirping in a dispersion-managed semiconductor mode-locked laser. Compared to up chirping, temporal and spectral semiconductor gain dynamics broaden a mode-locked spectrum for down-chirped pulses.
