Designing multi-core optical fibres for minimal modal dispersion

Abstract

A design principle for achieving low modal dispersion in a multi-core fibre with a high packing fill-fraction is presented. The effect is achieved by maximising the couplin g between neighbouring cores at the desired operating wavelength.
