Rotation of microscopic isotropic particles by transfer of spin angular momentum of light

Abstract

We show that contrary to general belief, spin angular momentum of light can also be transferred to transparent and non-birefringent objects. This should facilitate wider use of this approach for optically driven micro- machine components.
