Intra-cavity all-optical wavelength conversions based on LiNbO3 QPM waveguides

Abstract

The cascaded χ(2) process is an effective wavelength conversion technique, due to its excellent characteristics such as transparency to bit rate and data format [1]. Obtaining efficient wavelength conversions in this method requires a tunable high power (~1W) pumping source [1]. It would be preferable to reduce the cost and complexity of pump sources from a practical network manufacturability standpoint. In this report, we propose and demonstrate an intra-cavity scheme containing a quasiphase-matched (QPM) LiNbO3 waveguide as a wavelength converter and an erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) as a pump source.
