Abstract

We investigate the theoretical background and experimental generation of a 5 watt average power, flat supercontinuum (<500nm >1800nm) in different air-silica microstructured fibers using a compact ytterbium-doped fiber amplifier delivering femtosecond and chirped picosecond pulses.
